Eskdale is bordered by Wasdale and Wastwater to the north and the Duddon valley to the south. Eskdale provides easy access to the high fells on Scafell, Scafell Pike, Bow Fell, Harter Fell among others. The river Esk (and rivers Mite, Duddon and Irt) provide many beautiful riverside walks and gentle rambles.
Eskdale is home to the famous Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway, known as the “Ratty” or “La’Al Ratty”, which starts from Ravenglass on the Cumbrian coast and ends at Dalgarth (Boot) in Eskdale. Irton Road station is down a short lane opposite the house.

Rockwood is set in approximately an acre of terraced gardens on a steep hillside planted with an abundance of shrubs and herbaceous plants. Paths wind through the garden leading to seating areas with views over the surrounding fells and countryside. Red squirrels have been spotted in the garden (as well as sheep).
