Rockwood is a beautiful, comfortable self-catering holiday cottage located in Eskdale Green, Eskdale, Cumbria, in the Western Lake District (the English Lakes).

Eskdale is bordered by Wasdale and  Wastwater to the north and the Duddon valley to the south.  Eskdale provides easy access to the high fells on Scafell, Scafell Pike, Bow Fell, Harter Fell among others.  The river Esk (and rivers Mite, Duddon and Irt) provide many beautiful riverside walks and gentle rambles.

Eskdale is home to the famous Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway, known as the “Ratty” or “La’Al Ratty”, which starts from Ravenglass on the Cumbrian coast and ends at Dalgarth (Boot) in Eskdale.  Irton Road station is down a short lane opposite the house.

Rockwood welcomes pets and responsible pet owners.  The house is locates on the edge of the village of Eskdale Green.  There is a well-stocked local shop and two pubs (“The Bower House” and the King George IV”) within easy walking distance.

Sitting rooms

The main sitting room is comfortably furnished with two large windows providing views to Birker and Muncaster fells.  The room has an HD FreeSat television, DVD player and audio system (CD, FM radio and input for MP3 players etc).  Heating throughout the house is by oil-fired central heating and there is also an open fire in the main sitting room.

The second sitting room has arm chairs and a small library. There are views over the garden towards Ravenglass and the sea.

Dining room

The room is light and airy with seating for six people.  A large south-facing window provides plenty of light.  There is a collection of board games and toys for children.  A high-chair is available for small children.

Kitchen

Modern fitted kitchen equipped with ceramic hob, extractor hood, dual fan oven/grill, microwave oven, bread maker, fridge-freezer and all the usual kitchen appliances and utensils.  Note that there is no electro-mechanical dishwasher (human power required).

Utility room

There is an automatic washing machine, iron and ironing board, dehumidifier, drying racks, WC and wash-hand basin.  There is plenty of space to dry clothes, boots, children etc in the unlikely event of rain.

Bedrooms

There are three large double bedrooms plus fourth single bedroom which is available by special request.  All bedrooms are centrally-heated and have views over the garden to fields and fells beyond.  Bedroom one has a king-sized bed, bedroom two a standard-sized double bed and bedroom three two single beds.  The small fourth bedroom has a single bed.  Bed linen and towels are provided.  A cot is available for very small children.

Bathroom

There is a large bathroom fitted and equipped to a high standard.  The facilities include a walk-in shower, bath, wash hand basin, WC, airing cupboard and heated towel rail.  Heating is by under floor heating and heated towel rail.
