Eskdale is bordered by Wasdale and Wastwater to the north and the Duddon valley to the south. Eskdale provides easy access to the high fells on Scafell, Scafell Pike, Bow Fell, Harter Fell among others. The river Esk (and rivers Mite, Duddon and Irt) provide many beautiful riverside walks and gentle rambles.
Eskdale is home to the famous Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow gauge steam railway, known as the “Ratty” or “La’Al Ratty”, which starts from Ravenglass on the Cumbrian coast and ends at Dalgarth (Boot) in Eskdale. Irton Road station is down a short lane opposite the house.

Rockwood is an attractive detached Victorian country house built in the traditional Lake District style. The house is set in extensive gardens on the edge of Eskdale Green (Eskdale). There are views from the house and gardens over fields to the fells beyond. Click on the map icon below to locate Rockwood.
The house is spacious, warm and comfortable and was recently refurbished to a high standard. Rockwood can accommodate up to six to seven people in comfort in its four bedrooms (three double, one single).
Eskdale, together with neighbouring Wasdale and the Duddon valley, are widely regarded as among the most beautiful valleys in the Lake District. Rockwood is within easy reach of many high peaks and there are also numerous lower level walks to enjoy, many of which start from Rockwood’s front door (see “Locality”).
The village of Eskdale Green has a well stocked local shop catering for most everyday needs and there are two pubs within easy walking distance of the house (and many others a short drive or walk away).
